CHICAGO — Police are asking for Portage Park residents to help them identify a man who tried to follow and lure a 14-year-old girl Monday evening.

Around 5 p.m., the girl got off a CTA bus and began walking home in the 4200 block of North Cicero Avenue when a man began following her and "asking many questions," according to a police alert issued Tuesday.

The girl kept walking, but the man persisted and asked for her number, telling her "she can get to know him and she can come to his house," police said.

The girl ran into a nearby McDonalds, but the man stayed outside and gestured at her through the window, police said. She then called her aunt, who called 911.

The girl reported having seen the man two other times last year, police said.

The suspect is described as white man in his late 20s, standing around 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing about 140 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. On Monday he was seen wearing a Cubs baseball cap, a white T-shirt and blue baggy sweatpants.

Anyone with information on the suspect or the incident is asked to call detectives at 312-744-8200.
