Englewood Shooting Kills Teen, Wounds 2 Other People, Police Say

CHICAGO — Jaywan Freeman, 17, was shot to death and two others wounded in Englewood on Monday night, officials said.

At 9:49 p.m., the three were standing in the street in the 6900 block of South Harvard Avenue when a someone walked up to them and fired shots, police said.

A 17-year-old was hit in his head, police said.

Freeman, of the 7900 block of South Chicago Avenue, was pronounced dead at midnight, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

A 20-year-old was hit in his abdomen and taken to Stroger Hospital, and a 17-year-old was hit in his left shoulder and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center. Their conditions were not available but they were listed as "stable," police said.

The 17-year-old who was killed and the 20-year-old man were documented gang members, a police source said.

No one was in custody.
