1 Killed, 29 Wounded In Memorial Day Weekend Shootings

CHICAGO — A 16-year-old boy was killed and 10 other people were wounded in shootings across the city from Sunday into Monday, police said.

At 6:32 p.m., the 16-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl were in a gangway in the 1600 block of South St. Louis Avenue in North Lawndale when a gray car drove by and someone inside fired shots, police said.

The boy was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The girl also was taken to Mt. Sinai after being grazed by a bullet in her back, police said.

The boy was identified as Daishawn Moore, of the 1800 block of South Homan, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. He was pronounced dead at 6:41 p.m., and an autopsy showed he died from a gunshot wound in his back in a homicide.

In non-fatal shootings:

• At 2:45 a.m., two men in a car driving inbound on Interstate 57 near 115th Street were shot by someone in a passing Dodge Charger, according to the Illinois State Police. Another car then crashed into their car, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The shooting victims were taken to Roseland Community Hospital, state police said, while two other men from their car were taken to Christ Medical Center for injuries suffered in the crash, the Tribune said.

• Two men were driving southbound in the 4500 block of South Pulaski Road in Archer Heights at 1:24 a.m. when someone in a dark-colored car fired shots at them, police said.

A 22-year-old man was hit in his right leg and a 21-year-old man was hit in his right knee, police said. They were taken to Christ, where their conditions were unknown but they were considered to be "stable."

• At 9:08 p.m., a 21-year-old man was walking through an alley near the 5800 block of South King Drive in Washington Park when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. He was shot in his right thigh and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where his condition was unknown but he was considered to be "stable," police said.

• A 23-year-old man was in a car headed eastbound in the 200 block of West Garfield Boulevard in Englewood at 8:45 p.m. when he hear shots and felt pain, police said. He went to Provident Hospital with a gunshot wound in his upper chest and was later transferred to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was unknown but he was considered to be "stable," police said.

He is a documented gang member, a police source said.

• A 23-year-old man was in the 11700 block of South Wallace Street in West Pullman at 7:52 p.m. when he was shot in his right forearm, police said. He was taken in fair condition to Christ.

• At 11:39 a.m., a 24-year-old man was on the sidewalk in the 700 East 67th Street in Woodlawn when someone in a car fired at him, police said. He was hit in his leg and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition, police said.

• At 7:55 a.m., a 24-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk in the 6900 block of South Morgan Street in Englewood when someone in a passing gray car fired shots at him, police said. He was hit in both of his legs and feet and was taken to Christ in serious condition, police said.

The man is a documented gang member and the shooting appears to be gang-related, a police source said.

No one was in custody in any of the shootings and detectives were investigating.

From Saturday into Sunday, citywide gun violence left 12 people wounded.

From Friday into Saturday, seven people were wounded in shootings citywide.
