LAKEVIEW — A good karaoke singer can be hard to find, but the best will gather in Lakeview this weekend for a chance at a free vacation.

Trader Todd's will host a Karaoke Idol competition during the Belmont-Sheffield Music Festival, with two chances to win a three-day trip to Fort Myers Beach, Fla.

Winners of the Saturday and Sunday competitions will each win the grand prize vacation. To enter, singers will need to earn their golden ticket during preliminary rounds from noon-3 p.m. and 5-6:30 p.m. each day, with the final rounds from 6:30-7 p.m.

There's still good news for contestants who don't win the grand prize; all gold ticket finalists will get an invite to a June 6 party at Trader Todd's, which will feature an awards ceremony, karaoke and an hour of open bar and food.

Marking the start of Chicago's iconic street festival season, the Belmont-Sheffield Music Festival is bigger than ever, with a new second stage providing space for DJ shows and Berlin Nightclub drag performances from Trannika Rex and Squad Goals.

Just west of the Belmont Red Line "L" station, the fest showcases Chicago tribute bands and food and artist vendors in the heart of Lakeview. It kicks off at noon on Sheffield Avenue from Belmont to Roscoe and lasts until 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Although the fest itself is in its 33rd year, 2017 is the first year with the Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce at the helm, now that the chamber has replaced the former Central Lakeview Merchants Association.

There is a $5 suggested donation for entry to the festival, which benefits the chamber.
