UPTOWN — Beloved Uptown salesman Ric Addy might be gone, but the legacy of Shake, Rattle and Read is stuck on the walls.

Erik Archambeault and William Meek opened their new shop Provisions Uptown in the former Shake, Rattle and Read, 4812 N. Broadway. The store's new decor honors its former life, Archambeault said.

"We wanted to pay homage to Shake, Rattle and Read and Ric Addy because he was here for 50 years," he said.

The decor includes vinyl records and comic book images lining portions of the walls. And behind the checkout corner is a huge scratch board created by Candice Johnson, a bartender at Roger Park Social, Meek and Archambeault's bar at 6920 N. Glenwood Ave. She created it "just because she loved the place so much," he said.

Provisions Uptown is "a modern take on a general store," Archambeault said. "We focus on local and regional products as much as possible."

Those products include greeting cards, candles, gift wraps, barbecue sauce, wine, beer and spirits.

While the store officially opened Tuesday, its still waiting on a cooler for its cheese, sausages and charcuterie. It will also add Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream to its products.

Provisions Uptown will also host tastings from 5-8 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. For the opening week, it will host a tasting of its "top sellers in Rogers Park" from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday.

It is open from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sundays.
