Officer, Second Person Hit By Car As Driver Fled Police Stop, Police Say

CHICAGO — An officer was hit by a car while trying to pull over the car's driver in Grand Crossing on Tuesday, police said.

At 5:02 p.m., officers were responding to a report of someone with a gun when they tried to stop the car with the person inside, police said. The driver drove off, hitting one officer.

A man or boy with a gun got out of the car in the 7600 block South Lawrence Avenue, but the driver continued to flee and hit a second person in the 6700 block of South King Drive, police said.

The driver was taken into custody and charges were pending, police said.

The officer was taken to a hospital, where a condition was not available but the officer was listed as "stable," police said. The second person hit by the car was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center with minor injuries and was in good condition.
