CHICAGO — A 46-year-old man was still in critical condition Tuesday after being shot in Gage Park early Sunday, police said in a statement.

The man was walking in the 2700 block of West 55th Street when a man walked up and began shooting about 3:45 a.m. Sunday, police said. The victim was shot in his head and rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

Police on Sunday morning told reporters the man had died.

But on Tuesday afternoon, the Chicago Police Department issued a statement saying the man had not died; rather, he was still in critical condition at Mt. Sinai.

The police Office of News Affairs did not answer calls Tuesday.

The statement said, "UPDATE: The 46-year-old victim is not deceased as previously reported. The victim remains in critical condition at Mt. Sinai Hospital. No further information is available at this time."
