CHICAGO — You'll be able to see — and even adopt — more than 100 puppies, kittens, dogs and cats if you're in the Gold Coast this weekend.

PAWS Chicago, the largest no-kill animal shelter in the city, and other rescues are hosting the 20th annual Angels With Tails event. More than 35 businesses along Oak Street, Rush Street and Delaware Place will showcase the pets, and visitors will be able to adopt a furry family member if they fall in love.

The event runs noon-4 p.m. Sunday. Those looking to adopt will have to meet PAWS' regular requirements.

PAWS Chicago started Angels With Tails in 1998, bringing pets in need of a home to Michigan Avenue and Oak Street. The event "birthed Chicago's no-kill movement," the shelter said in a news release, and has helped save animals' lives and find them homes every year since.

"The number of pets euthanized has decreased by 80 percent [since 1997], to less than 9,000 pets killed in Chicago in 2016," PAWS said in a news release. "While there is still work to do to save more animals, our community has come a long way."
