South Loop Shooting Wounds Man, 27, While Another Man Is Carjacked Nearby

CHICAGO — A 27-year-old man was shot during a robbery while another man had his car stolen nearby early Tuesday in the South Loop, police said.

At 1:39 a.m., the 27-year-old man was walking in the 2200 block of South Wabash Avenue when three masked men got out of a Jeep Cherokee, police said.

Two of the masked men tried to carjack a nearby 28-year-old man's 2006 gray BMW, and the third masked man went up to the 27-year-old and tried to rob him at gunpoint, police said. The 27-year-old ran away and the robber shot at him.

The man was hit in his back and taken to Northwestern Hospital, where his condition was not available but he was listed as "stable," police said.

The 28-year-old man with the BMW was not injured during the carjacking, police said.

No one was in custody.
