Video Shows Drunken Man Punching Woman In Face In River North

DOWNTOWN — A video obtained by WGN-TV shows a drunken man punching a woman in the face outside a River North condo building, reportedly after the security guard tried to help him, police said.

And now police are searching for the puncher.

At 2:14 a.m. Sunday, the security guard — a 46-year-old woman — was working at her building in the 600 block of North Franklin Street when the man vomited outside, said Officer Laura Amezaga, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

She went outside to the sidewalk and asked the intoxicated man to leave, Amezaga said, and he punched her in her face.

According to WGN, which broadcast video from the incident, the woman's nose and a bone under her eye were broken. The guard, Zoa Stigler, told WGN she saw the man sitting outside and went to check on him. She realized he was sick and called police.

The man vomited on the sidewalk while his friends stood nearby, according to WGN. Stigler got a mop and bucket to clean the mess and asked the group to leave. After speaking with them, the man threw a water bottle at Stigler and punched her in the face. The group then left.

"Why would you hit a human being in the face that's trying to assist you, trying to help you?" Stigler told WGN. "I hope they arrest him because I do plan on pressing charges against him for assaulting me for doing my job."

A board member at Stigler's building has created a GoFundMe campaign for the security guard, hoping to raise $5,000 to help support her. The campaign raised more than $600 in less than an hour.

The man was white, 5-foot-7 and had short, brown hair, police said. The video shows him wearing a dark baseball cap with the number "3" on it — a hat made popular by Chance the Rapper, who sells it to mark his third mixtape.

No one was in custody as of Monday morning.
