CHICAGO — Jerry Austin, 41, was shot to death in Fernwood on Thursday night, police said.
At 11:46 p.m., the man was standing on the sidewalk in the 10100 block of South LaSalle Street when someone in a car fired shots at him, police said. The man was hit in his chest and left hand.
The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition, police said. He was later pronounced dead. Austin, of the 14500 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue, was pronounced dead at 1:57 a.m. Sunday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
The man was a documented gang member, a police source said.
No one was in custody.
