DOWNTOWN — It'll be a gloriously warm and sunny weekend for Chicago. Finally.

The rainy, chilly weather should end after Friday, when temperatures along the lakefront will be in the low to mid-50s, said Kevin Birk, a National Weather Service meteorologist.

"Things look like they're [going to] warm up here," Birk said. "Overall, the weather this weekend should be pretty nice in Chicago."

Saturday is expected to see temperatures rise to the high 60s to low 70s along the lakefront. There's a "very, very small" chance of light rain showers during the afternoon, Birk said. Sunday should be in the 70s and sunny.

Winds should be fairly light, and no rain is expected except for the showers possible Saturday, Birk said.

"Maybe Sunday looks just a little bit better than Saturday" to get outside, Birk said. "Both days should be pretty nice."

The normal temperature for this time of year is 68 degrees, Birk said.
