CHICAGO — Northwest Siders will get the chance on Thursday to ask U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) about federal health care policy and Tuesday's firing of FBI Director James Comey at a town hall meeting organized by the congresswoman at Taft High School, 6530 W. Bryn Mawr Ave.
The event originally was scheduled as a shared event between Schakowsky and U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley (D-Ill.), whose district includes the high school. But Quigley opted out due to a scheduling conflict, according to a spokeswoman.
Schakowsky will take questions at the event, spokesman Jeronimo Anaya-Ortiz said. She'll be prepared to go into detail about the bill approved in the U.S. House of Representatives last week to repeal the 2010 Affordable Care Act, he said.
"During a time when certain Republican members of Congress are actively trying to avoid their constituents, we think it’s important to hear what people have to say," said Anaya-Ortiz, who added that his office's "phones have been flooded" with concerned calls since the health care vote.
There is no advance registration for the event, so "arriving early is a good idea," Anaya-Ortiz said.
For those who can't attend, the town hall will be broadcast live on Shakowsky's Facebook Page.
Quigley, meanwhile, is coordinating more town hall events with the liberal activist group Indivisible, a spokeswoman said.
