CHICAGO — Derrick Nelson, 30, was shot to death Tuesday morning in North Lawndale, officials said.
At 8:52 a.m., the man was standing on the corner in the 1200 block of South Independence Boulevard when a man walked up to him and fired shots, police said.
The victim was hit in his head and in his arms and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, police said.
Nelson, of the 3300 block of West Van Buren Street, was pronounced dead at 9:28 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
The shooter ran away and no one was in custody.
