BEVERLY — Want to give both mom and yourself a gift on Mother's Day? Head to the Original Rainbow Cone in Beverly.

Once again, the ice cream shop at 9233 S. Western Ave. will offer a free, small Rainbow Cone for mothers with the purchase of another item. Moms must be present. No to-go cones and no substitutions.

Rainbow Cone is a Chicago tradition that dates to 1926 — tasty chocolate, strawberry, Palmer House (that’s New York vanilla with cherries and walnuts), pistachio ice creams and orange sherbet are sliced rather than scooped and jammed into a cone.

In previous years, the promotion has seen nearly 400 moms come through the doors of the pink building that faces west along Western Avenue. Rainbow Cone is open from noon-9 p.m. Sunday.
