CHICAGO — A 16-year-old boy, identified as Jesus Escobar, has died after being shot Saturday in Garfield Ridge.
At 11:55 p.m., the boy and a 19-year-old man were standing on the sidewalk in the 4800 block of South La Crosse Avenue when someone in an SUV fired shots at them, police said.
The 16-year-old was hit in his head and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition, police said. Escobar, of suburban Blue Island, was pronounced dead at 3:31 p.m. Sunday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
The 19-year-old was hit in his right foot and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
No one was in custody.
