Man Came At Teen Girl With Knife After She Wouldn't Come To His Car: Police

CHICAGO — A man tried to lure a 16-year-old girl to his car and then came at her with a knife in Austin on Monday, police said.

At 9:12 p.m., the girl was walking near Long Avenue and Division Street when she noticed a man driving a red, four-door car following her, police said. The man called out to the girl and tried to get her attention.

The man parked the car, got out and walked toward the girl while carrying a knife, police said. The girl ran home and told her mother what happened and they called 911.

The girl thinks she saw the same car and man near Chicago Avenue and Pulaski Road, and police said they think a second person was in the car.

The man described as black, 30-40 years old and clean-shaven with dark hair and brown eyes, police said. He wore a black baseball cap with rhinestones on the top, a red jacket and blue jeans. The make and model of the car he was in were unknown.

Police warned people to walk in pairs, call 911 if they see anything suspicious, be aware of their surroundings, walk in well-lit areas with other people and not to talk to strangers or walk up to strange cars.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to call police at 312-744-8200.
