Brother Rice Robotics Team Sweeps Regional Competition

MOUNT GREENWOOD — The robotics club at Brother Rice High School swept a regional competition over the weekend and advanced to an international contest in Long Beach, Calif.

Painted in the school colors, the underwater robot took the top prize for pool missions, presentation, marketing display and the overall award at the Midwest Regional Marine Advanced Technology Education ROV Competition.

The competition was held was held Saturday at Northeastern Illinois University, 5500 N. St. Louis Ave. in North Park.

“I am so proud of the students on our team. Months of hard work and cooperation really paid off today,” said Daniel Mostyn, the team's coach and a West Beverly resident. “I can’t wait to watch them represent Brother Rice, the city of Chicago and their country at the international competition in June!”

Teams from 28 regional contests throughout the world move on to compete June 23-25 at Long Beach City College for the 16th annual international competition.

The robot built at the school at 10001 S. Pulaski Road in Mount Greenwood is known by team members as a remotely operated vehicle, or ROV. Mostyn launched the robotics club at Brother Rice in 2015.
