BUCKTOWN — Chicago's tree population suffered during this past weekend's rainstorms.
As of 10 a.m. Monday, the city received 280 tree emergency requests, according to Sara McGann, a spokeswoman for the Dept. of Streets and Sanitation.
McGann said that the removal requests include fallen trees, tree limbs and branches that may have broken off from trees as a result of the strong winds and rain.
So far, 252 of the 280 requests have been completed, she said.
"Crews are working diligently to address remaining open requests and any further emergency requests," McGann said.
A large tree in the 2000 block of North Hoyne Avenue in Bucktown was among the trees removed.
Call 311 to report tree damage.
O'Hare Airport reported 3.56 inches of rain over the weekend, according to the National Weather Service. Winds hit 51 miles per hour at Midway Airport on Saturday. The service is warning that high winds will continue Monday, forecasting gusts of 30 to 40 miles per hour.
