CHICAGO — Shots were fired outside the Portillo's in the South Loop during lunchtime on Thursday — but there just happened to be hungry federal agents nearby.
At noon, three FBI agents were getting lunch and driving into the Portillo's parking lot, 520 W. Taylor St., when they heard shots, said FBI spokesman Garrett Croon.
An agent got out of the car and detained a man with a gun.
The agents called Chicago Police, who took the man into custody and took the gun, Croon said.

No shots were fired by FBI agents or Chicago Police, Croon said, and no one was hit by the gunman's shots. A Portillo's manager said there was no reported damage and the restaurant remained open and serving customers.
And the FBI agents finally got a chance to order Italian beef and sausage after handing off the alleged shooter.
"They did their job and they talked to my supervisor and they continued with their day," the manager said.

The day had otherwise been normal, the manager said, and he's never heard of another shooting at or nearby the Portillo's, which opened last May.
"Everybody is fine here," he said. "We are still serving."
