Uptown Saturday Nights Returns With Sidewalk Chalk

UPTOWN — Uptown Saturday Nights will kick off its 2017 season with a performance by Sidewalk Chalk.

The band, which fuses hip-hop, funk, jazz and soul, will perform at 8 p.m. May 6 at the Preston Bradley Center, 941 W. Lawrence Ave., according to a press release.

The seven-piece band from Chicago tours internationally and has shared the stage with De La Soul, Questlove and D'Angelo, according to the release.

The band is preparing to release its fourth full-length album, "An Orchid Is Born." Band members include MC Rico Sisney, vocalist Maggie Vagle, Charlie Coffeen on keys, Josh Rosen on bass guitar, Jerrel Johnson on drums, Sam Trump on trumpet and David Ben-Porat on trombone, according to its website.

The event, which is free if you RSVP here, is hosted by Uptown United. Uptown Saturday Nights is a series of free monthly concerts held in the Uptown Entertainment District supported by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, Groupon and Choose Chicago.
