OLD TOWN — The Near North Police District has put out a community alert on a string of Old Town burglaries dating from mid-March to mid-April.

According to the community alert put out this weekend, the robberies took place:

• On the 400 block of West North Avenue at 10:30 a.m. April 8.

• On the 200 block of West Scott Street at about 7 p.m. April 10.

Police identified the suspect or suspects as being an African-American man wearing a black hat, black jacket with red lettering, blue jeans and black gym shoes, and in another incident as an African-American man wearing a black White Sox cap, black hooded sweatshirt and blacks pants.

"The offender is seen loading the bicycle into a grey Chevy Impala which was captured on video surveillance," the alert states.

Police, however, also emphasized, "in each incident, the victims left their garage doors open or unlocked" and "bicycles and a motor vehicle were stolen."

Police advised residents to keep doors and windows locked; repair broken windows, doors and locks; make copies of surveillance video if available; don't touch anything after a burglary and call 911, including with reports of any suspicious activity.
