CHICAGO — Tony Briton Jr., 31, was fatally shot while driving in Garfield Park on Monday night, leading to a car crash, officials said.
At 7:32 p.m., the man was driving an SUV in the 2900 block of West Washington Boulevard when he hit a parked Hundai Sonata and then hit a Chevy Malibu, police said.
The driver of the SUV had been shot in his head, police said. Briton, of the 1800 block of South Central Park Avenue, was pronounced dead at 7:49 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
An autopsy showed Briton died of a gunshot wound in his head in a homicide.
The man was a documented gang member, a police source said.
A passenger in the Chevy Malibu, who was also a 31-year-old man, had minor injuries from the crash and was taken to Norwegian American Hospital, police said.
No one was in custody.
