BUCKTOWN — The Bucktown neighborhood restaurant with a huge side patio formerly known as Red Door will reopen as Royal Grocer & Co., city records show.
Located at 2118 N. Damen Ave. — on the first floor of a vintage apartment building that features a distinctive turret — Red Door closed in December after four years at the northwest corner of Damen and Charleston avenues.
Last week, Michael Hartman, owner of Royal Grocer & Co. applied for licenses to serve liquor indoors and on the patio, according to city records.
Hartman could not immediately be reached for comment on Monday to discuss Royal Grocer & Co.
John Krenger, the building's owner and Royal Grocer & Co's landlord, said the concept is still under wraps, but from what he knows, it will cater to both vegetarians and meat eaters.
"It's new owners and a new concept," Krenger said. He added that if everything goes as planned, Royal Grocer & Co. will open in mid-June.
