DOWNTOWN — A man hit by falling concrete last year underneath the Trump International Hotel & Tower is suing the city and President Trump, saying he's still suffering from his injury.

Eric Henson, a bicycle courier, was walking along Lower Wabash Avenue underneath the 92-story skyscraper last year when a piece of concrete broke free from above and struck him in the head.

Henson, 48, was hospitalized with a gash to his head that required stitches. But, according to his lawyer and complaint filed last week in Cook County Circuit Court, he still suffers from neck pain that affects his ability to work, among other things. Surgery may be necessary, his lawyer says.

"This was a guy walking on the sidewalk at the wrong time, at the wrong place, who was unfortunate enough to have a piece of concrete break free and strike him in the head," said Chicago lawyer Michael J. Goldsmith, who's representing Henson. "It could have been anybody."

Goldsmith declined to make his client available for an interview.

The suit seeks more than $50,000 from both the city of Chicago and the New York-based Trump Organization, both of whom were derelict in their duties to maintain safe walking conditions along Lower Wabash, the suit says.

The exact amount Henson seeks in the suit will be determined later, Goldsmith said.

Spokespeople for the city's law department and Chicago's Trump Tower declined to comment.
