CHICAGO — A 55-year-old woman was robbed and shot while walking home early Thursday, police said.
At 12:20 a.m., the woman was walking in the 5400 block of North Chester Avenue when two men walked up to her and demanded her purse, police said. The woman struggled with the men and one of the men took out a gun and shot the woman in her stomach.
The men ran away with the woman's purse and got into a waiting car, which was driven by a third person, and drove off, police said.
The woman was taken to Lutheran General Hospital, where her condition was "serious but stable," police said.
No one was in custody. Officers were trying to identify the make and model of the car the robbers used to get away.
