COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A man on parole for armed robbery is accused of raping and robbing a Lakeview woman he followed home from a Wicker Park bar last weekend.

Alexander Carter, 46, was sentenced in 2005 to 25 years in prison for armed robbery, aggravated battery with a weapon and aggravated unlawful restraint, court records show. He was released on parole last June.

Carter was back in court Tuesday — this time on allegations he raped a 24-year-old Lakeview woman he met at Nick's Beer Garden late Saturday.

According to prosecutors, the woman and a friend were playing pool and having drinks at the Wicker Park bar at 1516 N. Milwaukee Ave., when Carter approached the pair and began making advances toward the victim.

Carter then sat by himself and watched the duo play pool, Assistant State's Attorney Sheila York said during a bond hearing Tuesday.

Carter soon followed the woman and her friend to a nearby Taco Bell, prosecutors said. The friend went inside, according to York, while Carter and the victim stood outside smoking.

The victim next said she remembered being inside a Lyft car, where she and Carter discussed smoking marijuana, prosecutors said.

After smoking together in the woman's apartment in the 500 block of West Oakdale Avenue shortly after midnight Sunday, authorities said, the woman tried to "end the evening."

Carter refused to leave and proceeded to grope and kiss the woman as she repeatedly said, "no," and tried to pull away, York said. When Carter became aggressive and told the victim he had a gun, the woman stopped fighting, according to prosecutors.

Carter is accused of raping the woman and stealing her iPhone, laptop and credit cards before fleeing her apartment early Sunday.

Using a tracking application, Chicago Police officers were able to trace the woman's phone to the 200 block of West Garfield Boulevard, where Carter was arrested after a brief chase, prosecutors said. Carter also had the woman's laptop.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, where a rape kit was collected.

Carter, of the 200 block of West 74th Street, is charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault, robbery, theft and reckless conduct.

In addition to his 2005 conviction, Carter has convictions for burglary, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, attempted robbery and multiple drug charges.

Cook County Judge Donald Panarese Jr. on Tuesday set bail at $2 million.
