Serial Taxi Robber Strikes Five Times In Two Days, Stabs One Driver

CHICAGO — Taxi drivers in Bucktown, Avondale and Wrigleyville were robbed five times by the same man in just two days last week, police said.

During the robberies, the taxi driver picked up the man and drove him to his destination, according to a Chicago Police community alert. Once there, the man placed the driver in a headlock and took money and cellphones from the victims.

During two of the robberies, the thief put what the victims thought was a gun against their head, police said. During another robbery, the thief used a large knife.

Most recently, the thief stabbed one of the victims in his or her torso, police said.

The robberies occurred:

• 1:25 a.m. Friday in the 2000 block of West Webster Avenue

3 a.m. Friday in the 3500 block of West Melrose Street

• 1:20 a.m. Saturday in the 3700 block of North Clark Street

• 4:15 a.m. Saturday in the 2000 block of West Fullerton Avenue

• 11 p.m. Saturday in the 2600 block of North Kimball Avenue

The thief was described as a Latino man who was 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9, 150-160 pounds and clean-shaven, police said. The man wore a black baseball cap, black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
