CHICAGO — The man whose body was found floating in a pond in the West Ridge Nature Preserve last week has been identified as Guy Sharp Smith III, officials said.

Sharp, 24, lived just over a mile away in the 6400 block of North Damen Avenue, but his body was discovered by a passerby around 8:05 a.m. on April 16 floating in the pond of the West Ridge Nature Preserve in the 5800 block of North Western Avenue.

Police were called when the park-goer realized it was a person face-down in the water.

Sharp's cause and manner of death are still under investigation pending further studies, the Cook County Medical Examiner said.

Police are conducting a death investigation.
