CHICAGO — An Uber driver was shot while giving a passenger a ride in Chinatown on Tuesday, officials said.

At 5:52 p.m., the driver, a 41-year-old woman, was driving in the 300 block of West Cermak Road when a dark-colored van pulled up next to her car and someone inside fired shots, police said.

The woman was hit in her leg and taken to Northwestern Hospital in good condition, police said. A man who was in the car at the time was not wounded.

“We’ve spoken to the driver, and we are grateful and relieved she is doing OK,” said Uber spokeswoman Kayla Whaling in an emailed statement.

The shooter drove away, and no one was in custody, police said.
