CHICAGO — A priest at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in South Chicago was robbed at gunpoint while walking his dog Tuesday morning, according to police and media reports.
The Rev. John Molyneux, 61, told WGN he was out with his dog McDuff about 6:45 a.m. when a teenager approached in the 9100 block of South Baltimore Avenue.
The teen asked for a dollar, police said. As Molyneux took out his wallet, the teen pulled a gun, pointed it at the priest's stomach and asked, "How much more you got?" Molyneux said.
The boy then stole the wallet and fled.
Police described the suspect as a thin, tall black teen who could be about 17.
Molyneux told WGN he "feels sad about the kid who felt the need to do this" but wasn't mad at him.
"I really think the opposite of love is not hate. The opposite of love is fear, and we cannot live in fear."
