LINCOLN PARK — A Lincoln Park mansion once owned by 1986 Indy 500 champ Bobby Rahal has gone on the market for $3.475 million.

The 6,600-square-foot mansion at 1903 N. Howe St. has five bedrooms, 4½ baths, a carved limestone facade and a greenhouse, as well as a splendid deck view of the city skyline.

The Tribune reported in 2014 that the Glen Ellyn native was thinking of selling his Lincoln Park mansion and buying another, and Rahal sold 1903 N. Howe St. for a reported $3.415 million two months later. Robert & Johanna Rahal were listed as applicants at the property in documents filed with the Cook County assessor.

Even so, the Rahals have insisted they don't believe their previous association with the home should benefit any future sellers or realty agents.

The home listed last year at $3.6 million, but was withdrawn from the market before being relisted last week with the price slightly trimmed.

Rahal's Chicago digs are also mentioned in stories about his "championship cave" of memorabilia at an "undisclosed racetrack" in Downstate Joliet.

Rahal, 64, won the 1986 Indianapolis 500, which led to the first of his three season championships in the Championship Auto Racing Teams league. He retired in 1998, and is now racing partners as co-owners with former late-night TV host David Letterman, an avid fan of the Indy 500.
