BUCKTOWN — A dog did not stop a thief sporting a "man bun" from swiping three guitars Wednesday night, a Bucktown homeowner confirmed.

The guitars, a blue Fender Telecaster, a red 1963 Guild StarFire, and a KOA wood Martin acoustic, were stolen from a home in the 2000 block of North Honore Street between 7:09 and 7:24 p.m. Wednesday, according to the victim. The victim's father arrived home Wednesday night to find their 85-pound Boxer roaming around in the backyard, the back door busted in and the guitars gone.

The man said the red 1963 Guild StarFire — worth as much as $3,200 — was a gift from his father's bandmate and its sentimental value is "priceless."

"It was given to me 30 years ago by my dad's best friend, whom he played in a band with before they both got drafted during Vietnam," the man said.

The break-in was partially captured by a neighbor's security camera.

Based on video footage, the thief is a white man in his 20s, 5-foot-8 to  5-foot-10, weighs 150 to 175 pounds and wears his hair tied in a "man bun."

After taking the guitars, he loaded them into a black Lincoln LS, the victim said.

Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman, confirmed the burglary. Pacheco said that Area North detectives are investigating.

The homeowner said detectives were able to take fingerprints at the scene.

Since his dog Brewster was found roaming around in the fenced-in back yard, the victim said he thinks Brewster could have thought it was someone he knew arriving instead of the burglar.

"If you come to the front door he barks and jumps at the door. The back door is a different story. He may have thought it was my dad or me coming home. I think the guy kicked the door down, the dog ran out and he shut the door on the dog," the victim said.

Anyone with information about the crime can contact the victim by email.
