CHICAGO — It's going to get a whole lot easier to know if your train is coming.

On Wednesday, CTA announced it will add 130 digital display boards to "L" stops across the city over the next two years. It also plans to upgrade 159 screens.

“One of my top priorities is to continually seek out new ways of improving the customer experience and make taking public transit the most logical, easy and convenient travel option,” said CTA President Dorval Carter.

The boards, which will display ads and real time service alerts, will be installed at no charge to the agency and allow the CTA to generate new revenue. The cost of the work will be taken from advertising revenue, the CTA said.

The new boards will bring the CTA's total to more than 400 display boards.

“The expansion of our digital advertising leverages this vision, as all the displays will provide our riders a valuable service in alerting them to any changes in service and also informing them of when the next train is arriving," Carter said.

In 2016, advertising generated more than $27 million for the agency, it said.
