CHICAGO — From the inner-workings of the stock market to "ice cream science," the upcoming schedule for the Austin-Irving Public Library, 6100 W. Irving Park Road, is full of programs designed to keep people of all ages learning through April and May.

Programs for kids

• At 4 p.m. every Wednesday this month, students will be invited to join one of the library's science-themed after-school programs. Session themes include a "crafternoon" with recycled notebooks on Wednesday, LEGO building projects on April 12 and April 26, and an "ice cream science" course on April 19.

• The library's Kids Book Club will meet at 4 p.m. Tuesday for a discussion of Marion Dane Bauer's "Little Dog, Lost," a companion story about a boy's search for a pet, told in rhyming verse. The discussion, aimed at students between third and fifth grades, will be followed by a "light snack and simple craft project."

• At 11 a.m. April 15, kids and their caregivers are both invited to check out I Spy Labor, an interactive game of "I Spy" that will take players around the library and surrounding block. Participants will "learn about various forms of work and collaborate to figure out what work means," according to an event description.

The program is part of Working In America, a traveling social project and photo exhibit launched by the art collective Project&.

• At noon each Saturday between April 22 and May 6, the education group Mad Science Chicago will host Brixology, a program inviting kids to build "engineering-themed projects" out of LEGO bricks.

Programs for adults

• The library will kick off a three-month exhibit of "Image Poems," a visual poetry exhibit, with spoken word and dance performances by local artists at 2 p.m. April 22.

• At 6:30 p.m. April 24, anyone looking to pull up roots can attend a lecture called "The Less Stress Move: Taking the Mystery Out of Selling Your Home." The seminar will be led by "real estate specialist" Dale Tippett, who will offer "tips for simplifying the process of selling a long-time residence," according to the description.

• For those curious about investing, financial advisor Elizabeth Caddy will host a seminar titled "Stocks: The Nuts and Bolts" at 6:30 p.m. May 15. Topics discussed will include "common versus preferred stock, dividends, investment strategy, and different ways to own stock."

Programs for seniors

• Tippett will return at 6:30 p.m. April 26 with "Senior Retirement Living Choices," a seminar focusing on the "range of retirement living choices available to seniors," whether they involve independent or assisted living.

• For those who have always wondered about the benefits and limitations of Medicare, the library will host an "Understanding Medicare" seminar at 6:30 p.m. May 1. A specialist will walk guests through enrollment periods, coverage gaps, and differences among parts A, B, C and D.
