BUCKTOWN — After awakening to cries of "no, no, no, please don't," a Bucktown homeowner said she looked out from her window early Saturday and saw a man on the sidewalk with two men surrounding him, one of whom pushed the victim to the ground and the other who pointed a gun.

The robbery happened on the sidewalk in front of a row of townhomes along the 1800 block of North Wilmot Street around 4:26 a.m. Saturday, said the homeowner who dialed 911.

The man was "huddled in a ball on the ground"  and there was a pool of blood on the sidewalk, she said, adding that police came within four minutes and the man had by then traveled about a half block north by himself while the offenders ran south toward Leavitt Street.

The victim was beaten and robbed on the sidewalk in front of these homes, a witness said.

Officer Amanda Vidljinovic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman, confirmed the incident.

Vidljinovic said police took the 35-year-old victim's report on Saturday from Illinois Masonic Hospital, where a friend of the victim had taken him after the robbery. The victim first went to his home after the attack, police said.

Vidljinovic said the man told police he was walking when "four unknown masked males approached and demanded property."

When the victim refused, he was knocked to the ground and hit in the face and head causing bleeding and bruising, and then he was "forcibly" robbed of his property, Vidljinovic said.

No one in custody and Area North Detectives are investigating, Vidljinovic said.

The homeowner said she and two other witnesses saw two offenders and not four and does not recall seeing any masks.
