CHICAGO — Two police officers rescued a woman when she tried to kill herself in Englewood on Thursday.

At about 12:30 p.m., the officers were driving near 63rd Street and the Dan Ryan when someone flagged them down and said a woman was trying to jump off an overpass onto the expressway, said Officer Brian Reed.

Reed and his partner, Officer Roderique McClain, went to the woman and saw she was hanging over the side of the overpass. They grabbed her arms and shirt to keep her from jumping, Reed told DNAinfo. They held onto her for at least 10 minutes while she tried to pull away.

"Don't jump. Don't jump. Please don't jump," the officers told the woman, Reed said.

Other police helped the two, with a sergeant helping Reed and McClain drag the woman over the street.

The woman was taken to St. Bernard Hospital in good condition, said Cmdr. Walter Schroeder, a Chicago Fire spokesman.

Reed and McClain each slightly injured a finger during the incident, Reed said, but they were all right.

"We're doing great," Reed said.
