CHICAGO — Next Monday thousands of students who applied for spots at Chicago's selective-enrollment and magnet elementary and middle schools will find out if they were accepted.

All acceptance letters for students applying to kindergarten through eighth grade will be sent out from Chicago Public Schools headquarters Monday or available for parents and students online.

The deadline to accept an elementary school offer is April 24.

Admission to selective enrollment elementary schools is based on admission test scores as well as standardized test scores. Admission to CPS' International Gifted Program and Academic Centers is based on test scores and the student's grades during the prior year.

Rejected applicants will be placed on a waiting list with the rest of the applicant pool, where they'll be considered for remaining seats in an order based on their scores.

Admission to magnet schools is based on lottery. A second enrollment process for magnet and open-enrollment schools starts May 22 for those that missed deadlines or are still looking for openings.
