CHICAGO — A shooting in Lincoln Park wounded an 18-year-old man Monday night, police said.

At 11:45 p.m., the man was walking on the sidewalk in the 2600 block of North Sheffield Avenue when two men walked up to him armed with a gun and started to rob him, police said. When the victim tried to run away, the man with the gun fired shots, police said.

The victim was hit in his left leg and took himself to Illinois Masonic Hospital in good condition, police said.

The man told officers he was drunk, police said, and he was unsure of the exact location of the shooting.

DePaul University put out a public-safety alert Tuesday identifying the victim as a DePaul student and saying the shooting took place on the 1100 block of West Lill Avenue. According to the university, "The injuries he sustained were not life-threatening."

No one was in custody.
