WICKER PARK — The mounds of mulch delivered to the neighborhood's namesake park this month will get spread around all of the park's trees as part of a park cleanup event Saturday.

Set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday inside the park, 1425 N. Damen Ave., the gathering is open to volunteers of all ages but children under 12 must be supervised by their parents.

Participants should wear clothes that can get dirty and closed-toed shoes, said organizer Doug Wood, who puts together the annual clean-up in collaboration with Friends of the Parks and Chicago Park District.

In addition to cleaning the park and raking new mulch around all trees to reduce soil compression, the event will also entail a clean-up effort in the dog park on the far southern end of the park.

Volunteers are required to reserve their spots via an online sign-up sheet. As of Monday, there are several spots open.
