CHICAGO — The inbound Eisenhower Expy. was shut down Monday afternoon after shots were fired between people in two vehicles, State Police said.
The shooting was near Kedzie Avenue at 1:20 p.m.
A witness told police that shots were exchanged between two vehicles going eastbound. There are no reported victims, but inbound lanes were closed as police collected evidence. They were reopened around 3 p.m. according to traffic reports.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 847-294-4400.
In February, Gov. Bruce Rauner in his budget address vowed to add more State Police to the city's main highways "to counter the violence that has spilled over to the highways," Rauner said.
There were 47 shootings on Chicago area expressways in 2016, up from 39 in 2015. Authorities have described the expressway shootings as "spillover from gang violence."
