ROGERS PARK — Police are warning Far North Siders about a man who attempted to lure an 11-year-old girl walking to a bus stop Thursday morning, according to a safety alert.

Around 7:50 a.m. March 23, the girl was walking toward a bus stop in the 7500 block of North Ashland Avenue near Rogers Avenue when a man in a dark-colored van stopped at a viaduct near the bus stop and tried to engage with the girl, police said.

The man rolled his driver side window halfway down and called for the girl to come over, according to police.

However, "in fear for her safety," the girl instead went back home and told her mother about what happened, police said.

The van drove off in an unknown direction.

The driver is described as being black man in his 30s or 40s with a scar on the right side of his face. At the time, police said the man was wearing a black skull cap, jacket and gloves.

Anyone with information is asked to call Area North Bureau of Detectives at 312-744-8200.
