THE LOOP — State Police say they saved a woman who was said to have overdosed on heroin Thursday inside the James R. Thompson Center.

Police said they found the woman unconscious in a handicapped stall in a bathroom at the Downtown state office building at 100 W. Randolph St. about 1 p.m. The woman's face was "bluish gray," and her breathing was "labored," according to police.

A friend of the woman told responders that her friend "had taken some heroin and passed out," according to a press release issued Friday by State Police.

Initial attempts failed to resuscitate the woman, but police said she woke up after they administered a nasal spray for treating opioid overdoses. The woman was then taken to a nearby hospital, police said.

"We have thousands of people who come through the doors of the [Thompson Center] building every day. We never know what to expect, but we are well-prepared to handle what comes our way,” said Danyelle Foster, a State Police lieutenant.

“We strive to provide the highest level of protection and security to these individuals, and there is a great sense of pride knowing we have the tools to help save lives. The officers did a great job of responding to this incident," said Foster.
