MORGAN PARK — Students from PLAID Academy in Morgan Park visited the Cook County Assessor’s Office Friday and received a special coin featuring the Seal of Cook County.

Assessor Joe Berrios and his staff showed students from the school at 11056 S. Longwood Drive how many properties are located in Cook County, how property is assessed and other functions of the office.

“Meeting the children of our county and seeing their interest in how government works is always wonderful to see,” Berrios said.

The students were escorted on the trip by Jean Altman, a co-founder and administrator of PLAID Academy. She has described the school as a blend between traditional classroom-style education and the individual, independent model commonly associated with Montessori schools.

"We enjoyed answering their questions and seeing their enthusiasm,” Berrios said.
