BUCKTOWN — A 44-unit apartment building named "The Western" next to the CTA Blue Line Western "L" station is on track to open this summer and will be anchored by "a national coffee company," its developer says.

Amenities in the pet-friendly seven-story complex will include a rooftop bocce ball court, video arcade room, bike storage, a fitness center, an outdoor fireplace and grilling stations.

At the southeast corner of Milwaukee and Western avenues on the border of Bucktown and Logan Square, the apartments — all one- and two-bedrooms — replace a demolished title and loan shop.

Chris Ilekis, a principal with the Vequity, the building's developer, said rents have not been determined.

"Pricing will be similar to comparable buildings in the area. Preleasing for the apartments will start late spring, and the apartments will be delivered this summer," Ilekis said on Tuesday.

Since the building is next to the "L" and located along three CTA bus routes (Milwaukee, Armitage and Western) there will be just 10 parking spots for tenants, with two of those spaces reserved for car-sharing companies like Zipcar, it was previously reported.

So far, a coffee chain has signed on to rent just under half of the available retail space on the first floor, and Vequity is seeking another tenant to fill about 2,900 square feet.

Ilekis said the building will have an ATM kiosk.
