BUCKTOWN —  A burglar was captured on a home security camera inside a Bucktown home Tuesday afternoon, just minutes after the family's nanny and child left for a local park, according to the homeowner.

"He was probably casing and saw her leave; luckily no one was home," said the 47-year-old resident who lives near Holstein Park with his wife and daughter.

According to the resident, the break-in happened at 12:08 p.m. Tuesday.

The man appeared to have used a bolt cutter to get through a lock that secured a tall iron gate, the resident said.

"We know how he came in because of the footprints in the snow," the resident said.

After the man entered, a motion sensor was triggered and a home security camera turned on and began recording, according to the homeowner, who said he was in the process of filing a police report.

"Luckily, no one was hurt, and nothing significant was taken. They were very professional about breaking through the back door and used burglar tools and went straight through to the master bedroom, going through every drawer," he said.

He said he didn't know if anything was taken from the bedroom, which, based on slushy and muddy footprints, was the only place in the home the burglar went.

"We are still doing an inventory," the man said Wednesday afternoon.

The family said they shared a photo of the intruder with police, Ald. Scott Waguespack (32nd) and members of a Bucktown neighborhood Facebook page in hopes that someone might identify the man.

"We want to get that photo out there, if we can keep this from happening to someone else," he said.

A Chicago Police spokeswoman said the department had not been notified of the incident.
