WICKER PARK — After a long hiatus, a Mexican-style Sonoran hot dog will be returning to Big Star's taco-focused menu — but just on Tuesday.

Featuring a Vienna Beef hot dog wrapped in bacon and topped with pinto beans, lime mayonnaise, mustard, serrano sauce, tomato and onions and served in a bolillo roll, The Sonoran last appeared on Big Star's menu six years ago.

Julie Warpinski, Big Star’s Chef de Cuisine, said The Sonoran hot dog came off the menu in late 2011 to make space in the kitchen as Big Star expanded its menu with more taco choices.

"It’s a chance to showcase a past favorite of Big Star and bring it back for fans to enjoy," Warpinksi said of the one-day revival.

Also on Tuesday, the taqueria's beverage director Laurent Lebec has created two drink specials in which to wash down the Sonoran Hot Dog: the Pancho & Lefty (Schlitz 16-ounce and a shot of bourbon for $6) and Five and Dimer (house-spiced cider bourbon sour for $10).

The Sonoran, which costs $7, will be available while supplies last beginning at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.
