WRIGLEYVILLE — The Cubs are getting Goosed to open the defense of their World Series crown with a new Goose Island beer debuting at Wrigley Field.

Goose Island Brewery announced Thursday that its new 1060 Wit, a Belgian wheat ale with hints of orange peel and coriander, will debut, as the name would indicate, at Wrigley Field, 1060 W. Addison St., when the Cubs play their home opener at 7:05 p.m. April 10 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The draft beer will be available only at Wrigley and the Goose Island taproom, 1800 W. Fulton St., although it will also be on tap at the Goose Island Brewpub, 1800 N. Clybourn Ave., when it reopens in the summer after an extensive renovation.

Mike Siegel, Goose Island's research & development manager, said 1060 Wit was "created to celebrate Wrigley Field — one of baseball’s most iconic ballparks. Fans will notice the beer gets its name from the ballpark’s address, something I committed to memory at an early age when I visited Wrigley Field with my father and grandfather."

According to Siegel, the beer was "inspired by traditional Belgian wits, using a lot of unmalted wheat along with orange peel and coriander." He described it as "lightly fruity and a touch spicy with low bitterness that is a natural fit for the ballpark and refreshing on hot Chicago days."

Crane Kenney, president of the Cubs' business operations, welcomed it to the Friendly Confines, saying, "A summer afternoon at Wrigley Field has become synonymous with enjoying a cold beer under the hot sun during a baseball game. We were thrilled to work with Goose Island to introduce the light and refreshing 1060 Wit to reflect this favorite pastime."
