ROSELAND — Some CTA Red Line trains will be rerouted to the Green Line tracks starting Sunday as crews work to complete a $280 million renovation of the 95th Street Station, officials said.

The next phase of the project will include work on the tracks, the station platform and the new north and south terminal buildings, officials said.

The station will remain open, but there will be fewer trains running south in the morning and north in the evening on the Red Line south of the Roosevelt Road station, officials said.

Every other Red Line train headed north during the evening rush hour will run along the Green Line tracks starting at the the station at Ashland Avenue and 63rd Street. During the morning rush hour, every other Red Line train headed south will be rerouted to the Green Line tracks to Ashland and 63rd Street, officials said.

Normal service will resume in the fall.

The construction project will also complicate drivers' commutes along the the Dan Ryan Expressway. The left inbound lane on the Dan Ryan near 95th Street will be closed starting as early as March 18 — depending on the weather — until the fall, officials said.

The lane closure is required to complete construction on the new facility's foundations, as well as the construction of what will be two CTA terminal buildings — one north and one south of 95th Street — that will replace CTA's existing 95th Street bus and rail facility, officials said.

Once complete, city officials promise the renovated Red Line terminal will be able to handle more passengers and provide riders with "a safer, pedestrian-friendly environment that will offer fewer delays and shorter travel times."

Plans are in the works to extend the Red Line south from 95th Street to 130th Street.
