WICKER PARK — Police will be on the lookout for drunken drivers in Wicker Park, Bucktown, Logan Square and the surrounding areas this weekend.

The Shakespeare Police District "DUI Saturation Patrol" effort will run from 6 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday, according to police.

The district is roughly bordered by Central Park and Ashland Avenues on the west and east, Belmont Avenue on the north; and Division Street on the south.

Police said the purpose of the patrol is to "saturate a pre-designated area with roving police officers" looking for signs of impaired driving.

Patrols also will crack down on speed, alcohol-related and safety belt violations.

Also, the Breath Alcohol Testing Mobile Unit may also be deployed "to allow officers to expedite the process of charging a person with Driving under the Influence (DUI) prior to transporting an alleged into the nearest lockup for bonding," police said.

A similar patrol in the South Chicago (004th) District last weekend resulted in 84 tickets, though no one was charged with DUI.
